Newcomers to Canada

MOSAIC offers specialized services to immigrants, refugees and newcomers at the Vancouver Northeast Employment Centre.

MOSAIC has 40 years of experience providing service to newcomers and its staff has built up extensive knowledge and experience of how to help newcomers integrate into Canada and the Canadian labour market.

MOSAIC staff members in the Centre speak a variety of languages and provide services in first language as needed.

We can help if you are having difficulty finding work or ongoing employment. We will build up your skills and confidence through services tailored to your particular situation.

Specific services provided:

Our drop-in resource centre is a friendly, immigrant-oriented, supportive place to search for a job. You can use a computer with internet access, a fax machine, photocopier, and a telephone. You can also scan our job postings, learn about our workshops and one-on-one services and pick up information about other services in the community. Staff have additional language abilities and our resource room staff are there to answer your questions and offer suggestions.
Our Case Managers can help you one-on-one to identify steps you can take to find sustainable employment. Case Managers can also help with résumés, cover letters, job search techniques, interview preparation and provide information about training if eligible. Our Case Managers are experts in helping immigrants meet the challenges they face trying to get established in the job market in metro Vancouver.
MOSAIC works with employers to identify jobs that newcomers can fill. You can get help applying for specific jobs and at the Centre. You’ll be able to hear directly from employers who are looking for candidates. Once you have a job, Case Managers can help you keep it. For the first 3-12 weeks on the job, your Case Manager can answer any questions you might have about such things as employer/employee rights, taxes, and paperwork and coach you through any situations you might want help with.
We offer a variety of workshops to help you find a job, including:

  • Working in Canada – opportunities and barriers
  • Career and occupational choices for newcomers
  • Creating résumés for BC employers
  • BC employment standards and human rights
  • Employer expectations in the Canadian workplace
