Eligibility

Any job seeker or employer can access the Self-Serve Resource Centre at the Vancouver Northeast Employment Services Centre.

To be eligible for Personal Services and Supports you must be:

  • A resident of British Columbia
  • Legally eligible to work in BC
  • Actively seeking employment
  • Meet the program’s definition of unemployed (please see definition below)

You are considered unemployed if you:

  • Are not working; or
  • Have received a notice that you will be laid off soon; or
  • Must leave your current job because of a medical reason; or
  • Are at significant risk of losing your employment because of a disability; or
  • Are working an average of fewer than twenty (20) hours per week, AND
    • are actively seeking full-time employment
    • are unable to work full-time because of a disability, but want to work more hours

Full-time students are not considered unemployed.

Please contact us for more information regarding eligibility for the program if you:

  • Are currently receiving EI Special Benefits (Maternity, Parental, Sickness, Compassionate Care); or
  • Have a Social Insurance Number beginning with a “9”

Once your eligibility for Personal Services and Supports has been confirmed, you will attend a program orientation session. During the session you will:

  • Learn more about our centre and the services we offer
  • Complete the necessary paperwork
  • Meet with staff for a review of your employment needs
  • Be assigned to a case manager for one-on-one support
