Position Purpose:

Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood House is looking for an individual who is interested in working in an inclusive, school-aged childcare program. The Out of School Care operates out of the lunchroom of a local elementary school and provides stimulating, safe and dynamic activities for 30 school-aged children. Under the supervision of the Centre Supervisor, the Supported Childcare worker will be responsible for individual care needs of 2 children. Specifically, he/she will implement strategies designed to support the integration of the child into the daily program. The ideal candidate will be able to engage and inspire the child to participate safely in a variety of activities including swimming, sports, group games and tabletop activities.

Qualifications required:

  • Early Childhood Education or equivalent (CCYC, Social Work preferred)
  • Experience and/or training in working with children with exceptional needs (Autism preferred)
  • Meet all requirements of the Childcare Licensing Regulations
  • Must be at least 19 years of age
  • Minimum 20 hours of training or courses related to working with children or child development
  • Hold a valid First Aid Certificate
  • Hold a valid First Aid Certificate
  • Written and verbal communication skills as report writing is necessary.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to plan and implement social activities and recreational experiences for children
  • An ability to create and maintain a calm and flexible environment

Rate of Pay: $19.01 per hour (Role Assessment Band 6)

Terms of Employment: 17.5 hours per week, Mon-Fri (2:30-6:00PM)

Full time (35 hours per week) during school breaks

Commences: March 1st, 2018
